Unit 3: American identity as ‘doers and fighters’

The grade 9 and 10 students are currently studying American identity through the use of Global Thinking Routines. The students were tasked with investigating Americans as ‘doers and fighters’ and linking the concepts of perseverence, determination, and resilience to the identity of the United States of America. To further their understanding of these terms we arranged for the students to participate in either boxing or dance to draw parallels to the concept of American identity. We also discussed how ‘doers and fighters’ both can have positive and negative connotations, as some doers create medical advancements that save lifes while others may cause others pain. The students each chose an event or historical figure in United States history to exemplify this concept. The prezi below will provide the process through the GTR’s that the students will follow.
